Kudos to Mr. Stang for having provided this concise, matter-of-fact coverage of a number of major events in the twentieth century and both the people involved in the front lines and behind the scenes. Having read Bella Dodd's "School of Darkness," Paul Kengor's "Dupes," and Ann Coulter's "Mugged," and Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag Archipelago" beforehand, a lot of the information here shouldn't have come as a surprise, but somehow it was still pretty shocking. Maybe the most shocking thing is that all this history isn't secret or hidden from view -- most of Stang's sources are newspapers, magazines, and journals of the time -- to the point that it's maddening how badly my parents' and grandparents' generation got taken for a ride (and how many are still on board that ride).
