Anything Else or Everything: Photo Diaries

Life sometimes takes us to places where light and darkness coexist, where steps backwards don’t exist, and every step forward presents new questions and uncertainties. This book represents my lengthy stay at such a place. I started working on it countless times, and I stopped working on it just as many times. I hesitated going back to that place. 

The photos and entries included in the book are selected from a rich personal archive spanning from 2012 to 2016. This was a period of substantial changes in my life, starting with an identity crisis and ending with a different identity crisis. One small camera and a diary became a therapeutic tool for introspection. The analogue photos capture flashes of a cruel reality, while the diary entries serve as fingerprints of the state of my emotional well-being. 

Creating a story centered around my inner life was a challenge. The book was a sort of selective game with my memory. In it, I layer and intertwine various associations, moments, and situations. Parts of the book are, to some extent, fictional, but the core remains faithful to my real experiences. It is a personal message from the past, a revisiting of the unprocessed, and an attempt to understand it. It is a story about finding oneself and simultaneously an invitation to plunge into the personal depth of existence.
