Description

Across Asia on a Bicycle is a book by Thomas Gaskell Allen and William Lewis Sachtleben, first published in 1897. In 1890, the two authors set out to travel around the world on a then-new invention, the bicycle. In 1893 they returned, having covered over 15,000 miles which was at that time the 'longest continuous land journey ever made around the world'. This is their account of a trip which took them across Turkey, Persia, Central Asia, and northern China. It describes their adventures travelling through countries few outsiders ever visited, as well as the barriers they encountered such as language difficulties, unusual customs, and setbacks due to illness and equipment breakdowns.

This book has 50,672 words, and was originally published in 1897.
