Thomas Hoccleve: The Regiment of Princes
Charles R. Blyth
Written around 1411, Thomas Hoccleve's poem The Regiment commented on the deposition of Richard II and the subsequent attempts by the Lancastrian crown to assert its authority and legitimacy. This is a comprehensive study of all extant manuscripts of The Regiment and gives new life to the poetry of Hoccleve, for many years shadowed by the works of his contemporaries, including Chaucer. Includes the poem in full with introduction and notes.
