美国浸礼会医生德万(DevanTT．)1847年在香港出版的《中国语启蒙》(The Beginner's FirstBook)中就收录了英汉对照的解剖学、药物和疾病的名词和术语，

该书在1858年和1861年进行过两次修订和增补，影响较大，是翻译中国医学术语的第一次尝试。

1864年罗存德(LobscheidW.)在香港出版的《英华行箧便鉴》(TheTourists' Guide and Merchant'sManual)中也包括有药物学名词术语。
