As mentioned in the introduction:
The stories recall the community as it was during [the author's] lifetime. A detailed account of the businesses, their location and owners is found in "Businesses of Point de Bute". "Cheese Factory" and "Mills" elaborate on two specific types of businesses. Homes and their owners in the past and up to the 1960s are described in "Houses of Point de Bute", and the importance of religion is revealed in "Point de Bute United Church". "Soapmaking" explains an old-fashioned practice, while changing social mores are revealed with great insight in "I Went to the Circus". The potentially disastrous incidents recounted in "Rowboat" and "The Upset" are told with humour. "Indians", "Gypsies" and "Negroes of Green Hill" tell of groups of people for whom Da had great respect. Finally, lingering mystery is found in "Hidden Treasure", a retelling of Point de Bute folklore.
