Rousseau and Romanticism
Irving Babbitt
The great intellectual Irving Babbitt, also professor of French in Harvard, had an excellent knowledge of the French culture authors (not only in France, of course), and wrote this seminal essay about the relations between Jean-Jacques Rousseau and the Romantic movement. Rousseau (1712-1778), born in Geneva, Switzerland, influenced 19th-century writers of the Romantic period.
