Coming Through the Swamp
Gene Stratton-Porter, Sydney Landon Plum
Sydney Landon Plum has gathered selections from the nature writings of Gene Stratton Porter. In the introduction, she gives a brief biography of Porter, showing her amazing dedication to collecting, photographing and protecting the wild plants and animals. Inspiring.
Porter's writings on nature have always been my favorite bits of her books. I didn't know that she had published several nonfiction books as well. I truly wish I had some of them, because I loved the essays collected here. I wish the author had been able to include more photographs by Porter, or even modern photographs of some of the subjects. It would have enriched the writings.
